Privacy Policy

Effective date: 3 October 2026 · Last updated: 4 October 2026

The short version. Genie is an AI assistant that runs on your Mac and keeps your data there. This website uses Google Sign-In only to know who you are and to keep your Genie key safe in your account. When you sign in we get your name, email address and profile picture. We never get access to your Gmail messages, contacts, calendar or files through this sign-in. If you buy Genie, payment is handled by Paddle, our reseller — we never see your card number. We don't sell your data, don't show ads and don't use tracking or analytics.

1. Who we are

"Genie", "we", "us" and "our" mean Genie plus AI, a sole proprietorship and the maker of the Genie app for Mac and of this website, genieplus.me. This policy covers the website, your Genie account, and the Genie app. You can reach us any time at contact@genieplus.me.

2. Signing in with Google

You can sign in to your Genie account with your Google (Gmail) account. Google will show you a screen asking you to allow this. Here is exactly what we ask for, and why:

Permission we ask forWhat we receiveWhy we need it
openidA Google account ID — a number that identifies your Google account to usTo know it's you each time you sign in, and to link your Genie key to your account
emailYour email address, and whether Google has confirmed itTo show you which account you're signed in with, and to contact you about your account or key if needed
profileYour name and profile pictureTo show your name and picture on your account page

That's all. Signing in does not give us access to your Gmail messages, Google Contacts, Google Calendar, Google Drive, your Google password, or anything else in your Google account. We never ask for those permissions on this website.

You can remove Genie's access at any time in your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/connections. Doing so stops future sign-ins; to also delete what we've stored, see Your choices and rights.

3. How we use Google user data

We use the information we receive from Google only to:

We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, share it with data brokers, use it to decide whether you can get credit or a loan, or use it to train AI models. No person at Genie reads it except when you ask us for help, when it's needed for security, or when the law requires it.

Genie's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. Your account and Genie key

When you sign in, we store the following in our account database:

Payments

Our order process is run by our online reseller Paddle.com, which is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: Paddle sells Genie to you, takes your payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and deals with billing questions and returns. Paddle collects your card or payment details, name, email, country and postcode (needed for tax), and handles them as an independent data controller under the Paddle Privacy Policy. Your card number never reaches us. Paddle tells us whether payments succeed so we can make and renew your key, and you can see your invoices, change your payment method or cancel in Paddle's customer portal from your account page.

Your Genie key unlocks the Genie app on one Mac. To make that work, our license server keeps a record for each key: a one-way fingerprint of the key (not the key itself), the key's end date (if it has one), whether it's switched off, and — once you use it — an anonymous ID for the Mac it's used on (a one-way fingerprint of the Mac's hardware ID, which can't be turned back into the real ID), when it was last checked, and the version of Genie installed.

The Genie app checks your key with our license server every few hours. That check sends only your key, the anonymous Mac ID and the Genie version. During the free trial it sends only the anonymous Mac ID and version. Nothing you say, type or see in Genie is ever sent to our server.

5. The Genie app on your Mac

Genie is built to keep your information on your own Mac:

6. Mac permissions Genie asks for

macOS asks you before Genie can use any of these. You can say no, or change your mind later in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Genie works with fewer features if you leave some off.

PermissionWhat Genie uses it for
Microphone & Speech RecognitionHearing you while you hold the talk key, and turning your voice into text
AccessibilityReading what's on screen when you ask, pointing at buttons, and clicking or typing for tasks you approve
Screen RecordingTaking a screenshot when you ask Genie about your screen (optional; never saved)
Automation (Mail, Notes, Messages and other apps)Controlling those apps to do the tasks you ask for
Calendars & RemindersAnswering questions about your schedule; adding or changing events only after you approve
ContactsFinding people's addresses for emails and invites, and showing names instead of numbers in messages
Full Disk Access (optional)Reading your iMessage and WhatsApp chats on this Mac when you ask about them — read only, Genie never sends from them on its own
Files and folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, drives)Reading and saving files for tasks you ask for
Photos, Camera, Location, Bluetooth, Local NetworkOnly when a request you make needs them

7. Gmail and Google Calendar in the app

The Genie app works with your email and calendar through your Mac's own Mail and Calendar apps. To use Gmail or Google Calendar with Genie, you add your Google account to your Mac in System Settings → Internet Accounts. That connection is between your Mac and Google — Genie never receives your Google password or Google sign-in tokens, and this is separate from signing in on this website.

8. AI providers

Genie uses an AI service to understand you and answer. You choose which one — Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, DeepSeek or NVIDIA — and use your own API key with it.

Each AI provider handles what it receives under its own privacy policy and terms, which you agreed to when you got your API key. Please read them.

9. Optional features

These are off until you turn them on:

10. Who we share data with

We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with:

11. Cookies

This website uses only the cookies it needs to work:

We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we don't load third-party trackers.

12. How long we keep data

13. Security

All traffic to this website and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Your stored Genie key is encrypted in our database, and the license server stores only one-way fingerprints of keys. Sign-in cookies are protected so that scripts on the page can't read them. On your Mac, secrets are kept in the macOS Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information, and we'll tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.

14. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can:

15. Children

Genie isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you're under 18, please use Genie only with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Genie changes. We'll change the "Last updated" date above, and if the changes are important we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. We'll never use your data in a new way without asking you first.
